Tourism and Events
Clevedon is a charming Victorian seaside town whose elegance and appeal has plenty to offer all ages. Here, sand gives way to a pebbled shoreline, backed by largely unspoilt Victorian architecture.
The restored Grade I listed pier dates from 1869 and is recognised as one of the finest in the country and a national monument. Take a walk along the pier and enjoy a cream tea on the pavilion, absorbing views of the Welsh coast.
The Waverley paddle steamer and her sister ship the Balmoral pleasure cruiser are frequent callers at the pier during the summer months.
Clevedon’s fine coastal walks offer stunning views which have inspired many great writers including Tennyson, Thackeray and Coleridge. The glorious Poet’s Walk, named after those it inspired, provides magnificent views of the coast and Welsh Mountains.
Clevedon has a wide variety of leisure activities on offer, from sailing to tennis at the Salthouse Fields, there is something to suit all ages and abilities. Or, if you would rather leave sport to the experts, why not sit and relax watching one of the latest film releases at the Curzon cinema.
A stroll around the many art studios at Clevedon Craft Centre is a must for every visitor. Housed in a 17th century farm building, enjoy watching jewellery being made, leatherwork, painting and pottery or even feed the farm ducks, chicken and geese.
During your stay why not find out more about Clevedon’s heritage by visiting Clevedon Court, a beautiful example of a 14th century manor house and a National Trust building.
National Trust’s newest jewel in the crown is Tyntesfield Estate, a unique Victorian Gothic house and gardens.
The Heritage Centre situated just a few steps along the beach from the Pier also provides visitors with a wealth of history on the area.
For the keen shopper, Clevedon has a range of specialist shops in Hill Road, along with the main shopping area situated in the heart of the town in The Triangle. On the fourth Saturday of every month a Farmers’ Market takes place in the Town Square, an ideal place to buy local produce and crafts.
At the end of a busy day exploring the area, enjoy eating out in one of Clevedon’s high cuisine restaurants or indulge in a fast food favourite.
